Kind of funny that the school’s administrators responded by putting a burka on the exhibit.

Thank you for writing this. As a feminist, an Iranian-American, and a committed progressive, I couldn't agree more. Please write about this more!

So glad you are getting into this. My husband and I continually find ourselves discussing this new form of censorship... not an easy line to walk.

Well written Jill. I've just signed up for paid annual membership. To be fair I'm quite new to substack and it's remarkably good at recommendations. (As my wallet can attest) I am gonna be 50 in a fortnight. I think that reading your posts is going to open my brain up a bit and cause me some self reflection. Keep it coming.

I am still in shock that my 20 year old stepson at MTSU last year in his history 101 class was asked to reenact 1860 KY legislators arguing for the enslavement of Black people for white peoples’ financial gains. The core excuse for 92% of high school graduates unable to name slavery as the cause of the Civil War- is that it was an economic issue. There’s a Black man who’s President of MTSU. Since I went there in the 90’s we’ve gone over a cliff. Now the anti Black racists are running the show. They always have. The problem with white feminism is that it’s white supremacy in fancy shoes 👠

Abortion rights haven’t existed or barely poor. Rich white women have always been able to get abortions.

“There’s an entitlement not just to an education, but to broad emotional safety and wide control over what happens on campus.”

This is what happens when kids go to school in perpetual fear of being blown to bits by their classmates - every year, year after year, for their entire school K-12 education and the adults in charge do nothing to protect them.
