Yes we can have better lives, a better world is possible. But I'm not sure these lives will be ones of jet setting all over the world either. But they might be ones of more time spent hanging out with friends and less working.
I mean the reality is environmental limits and living within them, though technology can change how we use resources, there is no easy way out of the fact it's a finite planet (no matter what Jeff Bezos says about mining moon rocks) with finite resources and finite ability to absorb pollution. The reality is a need for greater global equality, and radically reduced fossil fuels and resource use.
