Besides anticipating what the future holds and in whose hands we now leave it, I am most devastated recognizing that nothing he did matters: felony convictions, impeachments, Jan 6, incessant lying, racism, misogyny, violent rhetoric, Nazi like rallies… and on and on. There are no consequences. What does this say to politicians and our children/grandchildren. This a sad day for the US and the world.
I am already exhausted by the hot takes and the Just So stories and the finger pointing and backstabbing going on. At the end of the day, voters chose him and what he stands for and I personally hold them responsible most of all.
The thing that worries me most about a second Trump term is the impending trade war. If we put up trade barriers, other countries will do the same to us. The price of everything will rise. People are complaining about rising prices now, but they haven't seen anything yet.
And his tax cuts will plunge us even deeper in debt.
No, the thing that worries me most is a national abortion ban with a probably trifecta incoming number one, then Ken Paxton being promoted to AG, etc. etc.
I for one think this race was unwinnable, no matter the Dem, it wouldn't have mattered Harris or not for multiple reasons- even if Biden had stuck in this, he would've lost and by more, by all accounts unfortunately.
Thank you for not trying to cheer me up. I need to stew. I need to be angry and hopeless for a few days. America broke my heart but not my soul. I’ll be back at some point, regrouped and thinking straight. But, not today. I just subscribed and look foward to having this respectful place to encourage me to move on. Thank you.
"The party has hemorrhaged working class voters. It has lost the confidence of even dedicated liberals. There is a party problem; I am just not convinced it’s a Kamala problem."
And the proof is in the fact that in the Senate and the House, there are also nothing but losses sans the NC Gov race which was going to Stein by default of Robinson running the worst campaign imaginable this year- unlike 2016, where you saw more split ticketing occurring, so it's the overall direction of the Democratic party not just one candidate (even in 16, it was arguably not all Hillary, in that case but even moreso in 24, given that Dems are collapsing in margins with people of color in particular and young men vs past cycles no matter the candidate).
My initial gut reaction was unreasoned. We are a resilient nation and a resilient people. Everything will be fine over time. Our grandparents survived the Great Depression and defeated Nazism to build the best and most free nation in the world.
While there will be struggles and setbacks, and while some will be disadvantaged in the short term, as a nation we have what the world envies and its strength will tide us through.
In some ways, this shock will have beneficial consequences in the long run. It’s a final repudiation of the neoliberalism of Clinton and Obama that favored Wall Street over Main Street and should push progressives to refocus the Democratic Party on working people who are the vast majority in the country and who should be the center focus of the party’s agenda.
Voters will soon sour on most of what Trump and his idolators seem sure to enact. High tariffs will wreck the economy and especially agriculture while an extension next year of the Trump tax cuts will magnify economic inequality. A new generation of Millennials and Gen Zers such as AOC and Chris Murphy will rise to the occasion.
We will not likely withdraw from NATO but our leadership there will be eclipsed. That may be good in the long run. After two generations of Europe benefiting under the defense umbrella we provide, Europe will be forced to step up to its own defense needs. And that may — that should — include being responsible for arming and protecting Ukraine.

We elected a loud-mouth demagogue and felon to lead our country.
I'm really ashamed of my country right now. The MAGA crowd embody all of the worst stereotypes about Americans.
Americans don't deserve Kamala Harris.

On a vacation train in Southern Africa. 64 people. All nationalities. The 10 Trumpers are full of themselves. The rest of us in tears.
Racist women haters basically. Very happy I don't live there.

Walmart and Dollar General become become the most expensive places to shop..bring it, make the ignorant masses pay for the monster they enabled..
“This election isn’t an indictment of Kamala Harris; it’s an indictment of our nation.”
Couldn’t agree more.

The real test of democracy is how well it survives bad leaders. This is indeed a sad and demoralizing day.
You are 100% correct:

We will all get through this.
"Voters will soon sour on most of what"
Are you kidding? Voters have had PLENTY of times to sour on him and his policies. Instead, more people voted for Trump than ever before.
Look at the record. The more destructive and hateful he gets, the more supporters love him.
