Thank you for writing about this, Jill. Israel’s

control of the entry of all, and any Palestinian leaving Gaza, as well as their rejection of their own ceasefire terms following Hamas’s acceptance of the terms shows that they are not there for a ceasefire, and they are not there for security- they are there for expansion. I appreciate you reporting on this as this is a conversation that could easily be overlooked by the horrors of this war. It is true that Al Jazeera has done the most thorough reporting on the genocide in Gaza. And I didn’t know that they were owned by Qatar- I was honestly surprised by that.

Israel does not control the entry of journalists into Gaza. Al Jazeera is run by a terrorist organization. Gaza is run be a terrorist organization, Hamas.

Bullshit. How ignorant.

Al Jazeera is funded by Qatar. Qatar houses Hamas leaders and props up the Muslim brotherhood which fuels attacks. Other Middle Eastern Muslim countries have also blocked Al Jazeera. Ignorant are those who only take in mainstream media and those who have little to no understanding of the complexities of middle eastern geo politics. https://www.voanews.com/a/what-led-up-to-israel-shuttering-al-jazeera/7598870.html

Fractured logic. Qatar is not Hamas. Muslim Brotherhood are not terrorists, either.

Agree to disagree on that one, sister. Qatar is hosting Hamas leaders, known terrorists. They are also funding Islamist propaganda. Maybe you support this? You are entitled to your opinion. I don’t expect you to agree with me. But I stand with Israel and I’m assuming you do not.

I'm not your sister. I stand with Palestine liberation, not with occupiers.

Although I haven't kept up with Al Jazeera in recent years, about a decade ago I relied on its English language site when my kid was studying in Cairo. Back then, it certainly had a few "out there" opinion writers with a definite anti-Israel bias, but its on the ground coverage of local events and conditions in Egypt was more solid, detailed, and up-to-date and less sensationalistic than anything I could find in mainstream western sources. To be honest, I was surprised to learn they even had offices in Israel. Still, the government shutting down and banning established news outlets puts Israel in some pretty bad company.

Sort of reminds me of when US military forces bombed Al Jazeera's Baghdad offices out of existence during the Iraq war.

My view is that propaganda and control over the media is a weapon in war that any combatant would be foolish not to use. For Ukraine, propaganda, some of it later exposed as false, was essential to rally the West to support them.

As for the fighting in Gaza, of course Israel and Hamas are going to use propaganda and control of the media to shape the narrative as best as they can. You may not like it as a journalist, but why would you expect anything different?
