I wish just one doctor would have the courage to treat a woman whose fetus is not going to survive or who is in danger of death caused by pregnancy complications. I would bet there would be thousands of pro-choice lawyers willing to test a law that requires doctors to, in effect, commit manslaughter. I cannot understand why doctors are so passively running away from this instead of challenging these draconian anti-abortion laws.

I also think that because ob/gyn residents/doctors are now primarily female they become easier to ignore and attack. Although the prior laws banning abortion were abhorrent as well they did not attack the medical profession (I know the law in Georgia was written in the past so that a doctor needed needed the agreement of 2 other doctors for an abortion to proceed for medical reasons. The state was not the ultimate arbiter as is today) I definitely think there will be less interest in ob/gyn going forward not only because of the atrocious state laws but a potential for a national ban as well.

On the other hand, facing the reality of a brain drain may force a change in these laws.
