My God, I wasn't expecting to sob this morning. This piece resonates so deeply. I chose to sever my connections to own (very large) family of origin due to their increasingly far-right beliefs, including lack of support for my trans child. The only sister I'm still in touch with lives 900 miles away, and when we visit her, I am struck by how much I've lost by losing the rest of my family. (Not that I ever doubt my decision - my child will always, always, ALWAYS come first.) But man. I miss all of my other sisters. I miss my Mom. Even now.
